ANDES – Bill Day passed away on Jan. 26, 2022, fol[1]lowing a short illness with his loving family by his side. He was born May 9, 1953, in Arena, to Hilson Day and Rosalind McMannis Bark[1]man. Bill was united in marriage to Laurie Stratton on June 7, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie and their children, Beth Day of Missoula, Montana, Roxanne Day and Lewis Rimmer of Little Falls, Forrest Day and Julie Nelson of Andes, Christine Day and Tim Baker of Ilion, Ryan And Mary Little of Jefferson, Elizabeth Little and Ryan Abbate of Andes, and Russell Spatafora of Andes. He is also survived by grandchildren, John, Adam and Levi Smith, Kristin, Joe and Mike Baker and Brittney Sutton, An[1]drew Day, Jorden Komosinski, Taylor Day, Cameron and Maverick Taylor, and Maryn and Lachlan Little. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, with baby Taylor on the way; and two furry friends, Bandit and Maisie. Bill was predeceased by his son, Jake Day of Andes. Besides the love for his family, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, darts, pool, snowmobiling and organizing events. Bill took great pride hanging flowers, flags, military banners and snowflakes throughout the hamlet of Andes for the Stars and Stripes Beautification Project. Bill organized and served as president of the Central Catskills Trail Association for the past 20 years. He developed some of the first NYS trails in the Delaware County area and he coached the boys JV basketball team at Andes Central School from 2000 to 2003. Before moving to Andes, Bill lived in Stratford where he took on the position of president of the Stratford Fish and Game Club. He devoted much of his free time and weekends to planning events to raise money to stock the area streams. Today, many still enjoy fishing those streams thanks to all of Bill’s efforts. Bill also started his roofing and home improvement business during this time which he managed for more than 40 years. Many of you knew him as the first person to welcome you when visiting Andes for the first time and for his in[1]famous Christmas parties at the Barn. And, of course, his many “Billisms” that we knew him so well for. Bill was always there to offer help to others. He will be greatly missed. At Bill’s request, there will be no services. He preferred to be remembered for all the good times with a party. The family has planned a celebration of life from 1 to 5 p.m., Feb. 12, at Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, 697 Peckville Road, Dolgeville. There will be food, beverages and music by his favorite band, The Round[1]house Rockers, playing some of his favorite tunes. This summer, a celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Andes Hotel on a date to be determined.
