From Youth Director John Kassay
… I have found an interest in the local Boy Scout program and conducted a 1 hour session for three Scouts ranked Tenderfoot through Eagle. Separately, I also sent a set of Junior shoes home with a young Scout from Long Island. Hey, It’s a start! Of interest to the Scouts, Horseshoes can provide partial fulfillment for two of their Scouting Merit Badges: Athletics and Sports.
My focus remains getting the sport back into the backyards and barnyards where most of us old timers first learned. In that regard, I hold that as a Horseshoe player, you are, by default, an ambassador of the sport. We all play a role in Junior recruitment.
I consider publicity regarding the sport as key to recruitment and have drafted an article that introduces the sport and it benefits to interested readers. I would encourage our ambassadors (you) to submit this article to the Sports Editors of as many local news publications as possible. That would be the papers that publish local school sports events and results as well as local happenings. I feel the article accurately and easily conveys the multiple benefits of our sport. The timing of the article release should be early Spring. The article and accompanying photographs are available for download here. Feel free to edit as you feel best meets your needs and list yourself as a local point of contact.
Thank you for your time. Think the future!
